Chef K is a culinary professional and entrepreneur with over 25 years of diverse experience in the culinary arts. Her portfolio showcases her role as a culinary arts instructor, as well as her expertise in restaurant ownership, private chef services, and event planning. This platform serves as a testament to her passion for food, community, and education, reflecting her commitment to excellence in every endeavor.

Education & Training

Chef K has earned her culinary certification and accreditation through Dorsey Schools Culinary Arts Academy, an ACFEFAC-accredited program, and also holds ServSafe Certified Instructor/Proctor credentials through the National Restaurant Association. In addition, she earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science/Accounting from Oakland Community College, bringing financial and operational strength to her culinary entrepreneurship.

Career Highlights
  • Culinary Arts Instructor at River Rouge High School, where she designs and delivers culinary curriculum covering knife skills, food safety and sanitation, nutrition, menu planning, kitchen equipment, and professional cooking techniques.

  • Owner of Waffle Café/Waffle Café Express in Detroit, where she led concept creation, branding, menu development, operational design, staffing coordination, supply planning, and marketing.

  • Owner/Executive Chef of Just a Bit of Soul Breakfast Café & Catering in Redford, operating a brick-and-mortar restaurant while leading on-site and off-site catering services.

  • Owner of ConverZations Banquet and Events Center, managing bookings, marketing, planning, execution, and vendor coordination for client events.

  • Executive Chef/Event Planner for KP Unlimited LLC, facilitating special event planning and vendor sourcing for client experiences.

  • Recognized for successful ownership of two restaurants, Just a Bit of Soul Breakfast Café and Waffle Café Detroit, and for building culinary brands that connect food, culture, and community.

Event Experience

Chef K has planned and executed events ranging from intimate gatherings to large catered functions serving 15 to 1,000 guests, including weddings, cocktail parties, family reunions, and community events. Her experience includes event tastings, custom menu development, staffing oversight, food line choreography, prompt breakdown and cleanup, and full event coordination through both catering and banquet operations. She also notes special-event experience serving high-profile clients and events for figures including Ben Wallace and Katt Williams, in addition to other notable guests and custom occasions.

Awards & Nominations:

Chef K was presented with the Spirit of Detroit Award in 2023.Her restaurant ownership accomplishments include the successful launch and operation of Just a Bit of Soul Breakfast Café and Waffle Café Detroit. Waffle Café Detroit was also included among Detroit’s top 10 brunch restaurants and given viral social media recognition by Restaurant critic Mr. Chimetime.  Further reflecting the strength of her culinary concept, branding, and guest appeal.
